So, I’ve run across quite a bit of cool stuff for the iPhone lately, and I wanted to share my discoveries with the world.

First of all, the Edge web surfing is less than stellar. We knew that going in. Fortunately, especially in New York, you can’t go to the bathroom without stepping into at least one wireless connection that is open to the public. But most of the apps that are being created for the iPhone on the web are small enough to load quickly, yet pretty robust, in the end.

First of all, games: There’s iPhone games. Nice list of stuff, some of it good, some bad. Better is Diamenty, which looks and plays great, and is formatted specifically for the iPhone.

Now, Apps: Need to use a Word Processor, Spreadsheet or even Powerpoint-type program? Try iZoho – well, I tried it. Seems like it’ll be great… when it works. You can get all the way to a document, and then when you try to type, no dice. Here’s to hoping it works in the near future. Appmarks – This is a very cool personal web page with iPhone-like buttons. Check it. OneTrip – this is a great shopping list app.

And until Apple gets around to it, there’s iChat for iPhone, by Publictivity. It works – it’s not great, but it works.

But, the absolute best app I’ve found so far was Telekinesis, the iPhone remote by Google. Start it on your Mac, and launch it on your iPhone, and you can launch applications, control iTunes, view files, use Spotlight to search and run Applescripts on your Mac. You can even get a screenshot of what’s on your Mac screen at the time, and see what your iSight camera sees. Now, that’s cool.

And, it looks like Google it working on more controls for this application, considering the “homepage” is not yet full of buttons.

I can see this being a nice application I would use a lot. It’s already awesome, and the only thing I really have done with it so far is control iTunes. But you can run Applescripts, so imagine creating a script to run automated tasks, or upload files to a website, or send emails, etc., and launching them when you need them.

You can launch and view any file you can see in a browser, like images and PDF files, even word or text docs and spreadsheets – anything Safari can open.

This rocks. Plain and simple. I’ll post when I find more stuff but, for now, with the device out for under 2 weeks, is a pretty nice amount of apps. They can only get better, and more and more will, of course be released in the future. To keep up on the news, check sites like iPhone Source.
