I have been meaning to write something here about software for a while now. I’ve come across some really cool stuff, and you need to know about it. And it is all good because I said so.

OK – First, there’s iToner, from Ambrosia Software. There’s good and bad about iToner, but it’s not Ambrosia’s fault. iToner puts custom ringtones on your iPhone – without hacking. The trouble is, Apple made the iPhone ignore any personal content and ringtones except the ones bought from the iTunes Music Store with the last iPhone update.

I love you, Apple. But you suck. Stop trying to be Microsoft… you’ll never be that dumb.

Then, there’s Trampoline. Needless to say, this is (another) way to quickly launch software without having to travel all the way down to the pesky dock. (It is so far away!) What’s cool about Trampoline is it is great for keyboard shortcut junkies (like meh) who don’t really want to do a lot of mouse moving.

Basically, Trampoline allows you to create a custom wheel of shortcuts that pop up right behind your mouse cursor with a simple key command.

I r like simple.

And then there’s Celtx. Celtx is open source film production, writing and storytelling software. It allows you, of course, to write your screenplay with correct formatting and the whole nine, but also to organize your notes, create character bios, store and re-arrange storyboards, plan and schedule your project and much more. I’ve just started using it, and am very excited to get a project really rolling using it.

Then, finally, there’s this piece of software. It’s not for OS X, true, but it’s still software, and it rules the world. I laughed, I cried… I cried, seriously.

And if you want a little glimpse into what the movie will be like when they finally get it off the ground, check out the shorts that the director and Weta have put together. Mindblowing.
