So, the latest cinematic trailer for the latest World of Warcraft expansion has been premiered at Gamescom in Cologne. These cinematics are some of the best CG ever created, from the original through three expansions to the last, Cataclysm. Mists of Pandaria looks to be an interesting game, but it has spawned what seems to be the best of the cinematic trailers.

I decided to write about it not only because I play the game, but because these trailers (and many like them) are one of the reason I started to diversify my business, as well as pursue a Masters in Visual Effects.

Art is made in many different forms – more so, I believe, in this day and age where technology and the ability to produce such works are more readily available. However (and it has been said many times before), it still takes an artist, regardless of the tools, to produce dramatic, beautiful and moving works. I think Blizzard is chock full of such artists, and I look forward to seeing what they continue to produce for many years.
